It’s hard to describe all that has happened in just few photos and a blog post – nor will I attempt to. For now, I want to share an image of our group and a video that Rob Adams Films has made from this trip. It’s just a teaser of what’s to come. Meet our handsome group:

WPPI 2011

With so many things going on these days, I hardly have time to blog! But my good friend Lawrence Chan posted on his blog the schedule for his stay in Vegas while WPPI 2011 is going on. As you guys already know, if you are a wedding or portrait photographer, this event is not to be missed! This will be my 5th one attending and I am really looking forward to it. With over 15,000 photographers from all around the world, it is a week long event that will allow you to check out various vendors, meet & network with other photographers and hopefully walk away with some fun and inspirational ideas for your business. Every that I have attended, I felt like I grew little bit as a photographer.

Any ways, one advice I would like to give everyone that is attending for the first time is to soak everything in as much as you can. Do not try to be at 100 places at the same time. Pick out few things that you want to learn, people that you want to meet and really maximize those opportunities and develop good relationships with fellow photographers and vendors. I know there are lot of parties to attend to but keep in mind that those are just means to an end. You want to just walk away with a bad hangover/headache when it’s all said and done. But at the same time, don’t forget to have fun!

I wanted to quickly write up my schedule and post it here – hope to meet many new photographers as well as reconnect with some of my friends in the industry. I know it will not be possible to meet everyone but I’ll do the best I can. Feel free to follow me on twitter @kennykim and hopefully we can connect:

Sunday February 20th:
Check into MGM Grand Signature Hotel (this hotel is closer walk to the convention and much more quiet than MGM)
Heading to Pictage Party then to my good friend Becker’s [b] School Party at night.

Monday February 21st:
I will be walking around WPPI Tradeshow during the day. Come by Pixel2Canvas booth #1260. I will be there at 10am. I will have a few copies of my books to sell & sign if you want to grab one there.

Bludomain Happy Hour – I will be at Bludomain’s Happy Hour from 6:30-8:30pm. Come by and let’s hang out!

Tuesday February 22nd:
During the day I will be at WPPI Tradeshow floor.
I will be doing my Platform Class in the evening from 6pm to 8pm. Everyone is suggesting that you pre-board for classes to guarantee a seat this year.

Pictage Party – After my platform class, I will be heading to Pictage Party. You can get your tickets here: http://bit.ly/eAjRBz

Wednesday February 23rd:
Tradeshow Floor all day! I will be at Kodak Booth doing their K-Zone at 11:30am. It doesn’t stand for Kenny Zone but I will pretend that it does. I will be there with Pictage’s Simon Anderson and the famous Bianchi twins! So come by and show some love.

I might be doing a tour of Zappo’s in the afternoon. Still pending.

In the evening I will attend WPPI award night. I didn’t enter any prints this year (no time – or just bad time management on my part) but it’s always fun to see the latest trend and who’s doing what in our industry.

Thursday February 24th:
I always feel pooped out at the end of the week and always wished that I stayed an extra day to recuperate. So I will attempt to that on this day. Nothing planned yet. Maybe a fun photoshoot in Vegas?

Friday February 25th:
Back to the frozen tundra of Chicago 🙁

So here’s my schedule! It’s not 100% yet as I am sure things will come up/change. If you are going to WPPI, let’s connect. Hope to see some of you guys there. Again, here’s my twitter @kennykim so let’s keep in touch this way. See you soon!

I’m very excited to announce my two upcoming events in September & March:

2) Kenny Kim PhotoVenture III – Emilia & Romagna Region
March 14-20, 2011
http://photoventure.kennykim.com

I am elated to announce this workshop again. We are visiting a whole new region that I have not fully explored. On this journey, we will start by visiting Florence and a couple of cities surrounding its beautiful Tuscany region. Then we will march up to one of the richest and developed regions in Europe called Emilia – Romagna. It has one of the oldest university in the Western World and filled with numerous Renaissance cities such as Modena, Parma, Ferrara and Bologna. If you are a wine, food, fast cars and art lover, this region covers it all. We will have two photoshoot sessions: one with model bride/groom & another an engagement session – giving us chance to add some great images for our portfolio and few classroom times to learn more about our business. Kenny Kim will go over his workflow, networking & marketing tips and share some of his insights on how he approaches the wedding day as well as other topics related to weddings.

So expect to see various treasures Italy has to offer. Our Italian tour guide Max Brunelli has planned a wonderful tour and excursions. Arrive with excitement and leave with memories that you will cherish for years to come. Improve your portfolio working with Italian models. Participate in teaching & learning times organized by Kenny as well as other attendees. Best of all, get ready to have some fun – besides, there is no better way to spend your tax write-off! 🙂

Visit http://photoventure.kennykim.com for more details. I can’t wait to see you there!

1) Portfolio + Workshop III at the Four Seasons Hotel in Miami, FL
September 8th, 2010 with optional mixer on the 7th evening and Q&A on the morning of the 9th.

Ray Santana, with his extensive background in photography will help you with various technical camera-related topics such as settings (WB? Kelvin Temperature? Manual? P?), getting clean images straight out of the camera, the little things that we overlook while shooting, general lighting, working with vendors, workflow, plus much more.

Kenny Kim will share his unique path of how he started out in this industry and explain his branding, networking & marketing tips. He will also share tips about how to go about planning a perfect wedding day from a wedding photographer’s perspective.

For the first time ever, Yanni Tzoumas, the publisher & executive editor of highly acclaimed Grace Ormonde Wedding Style magazine will offer his perspective on the wedding industry, insight into the editorial review process and even spend some time doing a portfolio critique for what to submit to a magazine.

Whew. Time really does fly. Subjectively & objectively. This past month of May has been a whirlwind. I got to attend my first Chicago Blackhawks playoff game, photographed a wedding in New Orleans, shot handful of engagement and family sessions, photographed an unbelievable wedding in Italy, came back to Chicago to photograph a gorgeous Indian wedding and more. June is no diferent. In just 10 days I photographed another eSession, wedding, spoke at South Bend, Indiana and got to attend a concert of an artist that I really enjoy listening to. Did I mention it’s only June 10th? I wanted to just quickly update you on 2 things:

I. SPEAKING AT SOUTH BEND, INDIANA
I was honored when Katie Whitcomb, a great photographer from South Bend, IN asked me to come out to speak at their local photographer’s meeting. So I dragged my roommate and trekked across state. I had a great time speaking to about 30+ photographers. Here are few photos from that event:

Everyone was so attentive and supported me with positive nods & smiles. I do have to admit though. We had this meeting inside of a chocolate store and the smell of chocolate was killing me!

Then I had a real treat waiting for me. My clients Cory & Sarah from a wedding I photographed in 11/11/2006 made a surprise visit to hear my talk! They drove over 2 hours to show their support. This almost brought tears to my eyes. As if being 2 hours was not bad enough, Sarah just delivered a baby three weeks ago and Cory is currently going through chemotherapy for his cancer! This couple has a special place in my heart as they are one of the reasons why I wanted to go into wedding photography in the first place. Read more about them here in my previous blog post.

I got to hold their precious baby Charis! Thank you Cory & Sarah so much for going out of your way to visit me here. I will continue to pray and think of you guys. Please keep in touch as often as you can!

And finally big thank you to Katie Whitcomb for organizing this meeting and inviting me to speak here. I look forward to coming back again. Shout out to my roommate Kenny Nakai from tagging along with me and capturing all these fun images as well!

II. KINA GRANNIS
I got to attend a concert by an up & coming talented artist in Kina Grannis. She is the youtube/online/twitter gal with a phenomenal voice & musical talent. I’m fascinated because she understands the power of the online social media and uses it to attract a huge following and allows her audience to connect with her through her transparency. This is a lesson we can all learn and apply to our business – allowing our clients to connect with us by sharing our lives with them. Everyone in the audience responded to Kina as if she was an old friend that they haven’t seen in awhile. She immediately connected with her audience just by being herself. I’ve been fan of her music and when she came to Chicago for her concert, I jumped at the opportunity to go listen to her live.

Of course being the camera geek that I am, I can’t help but to bring my camera along as my date and snapped a few photos of/for her:

Thanks for a great concert Kina. She is still on her national tour to promote her new CD called “Stairwells.” Check her out at one of the remaining cities here. Best wishes with the rest of your tour!
