"Kenny Kim’s ability to simplify an image while brilliantly packing it with emotion is unmatched and gives the viewer an experience even better than what was really there!" – David Jay – Award Winning International Lecturer / Photographer / Entrepreneur

Kenny Kim has always been fascinated by the visual arts – and especially the connection between art & photography.  His passion first led to the study of graphic design at the University of Illinois, where he also became a skilled web designer and eventually opened up his own design studio in 2003.  It was during this period, he began to realize that the greatest outlet for his artistic expression and technical skills would be through his passion for photography.

Incorporating his own vision into the technical elements of photography, Kenny’s goal with each photo he takes is to present each moment he captures with a subtle artistry that enhances the feel of the moment.  With the launch of Kenny Kim Photography in 2006, Kenny’s vision for a photographer’s work instantly resonated with his audience and within a short period of time, Kenny Kim Photography has now grown into a nationally recognized studio.  In just 3 short years, Kenny has been commissioned for over 100 weddings in locations throughout the United States and the Caribbean.  He was also retained to shoot for the University of Illinois Menʼs Basketball & Tennis teams along with various celebrity events featuring David Foster, Andrea Bocelli, John Legend, Three Doors Down, Chris Tomlin, Michael W. Smith, and many others.

Kenny currently resides in Chicago, Illinois. He is thankful everyday for the privilege to call his passion in life, his profession as well.

THE LOGO

People, poses, position, placement and the priority for each – just a few of the elements that need to harmonize to produce great photography. This logo is a symbol of Kenny’s philosophy and approach to every photo opportunity he embraces. From behind the lens, his goal is to do more than simply capture each element – but to create that perfect balance of these elements in each of the photos that will become the lasting memories of your special time.

Whew. It was the longest 6 days of my life. I’ve finally caught up from all the craziness of hustle & bustle at WPPI 2009 Convention. Skip Cohen and staff at RangeFinder sure do know how to put on the "Greatest Show on Earth" for weddding & portrait photographers. This was my third year attending the convention and it was a little different experience for me as I officially got to document everything through my camera. I normally do this wherever I go, but having given the privilege, I accepted the challenge and got my A-game on to cover as much of the event as I can. Well with 10,000+ in attendance, trying to be (in the words of Dane Sanders) ubiquitous was nearly impossible – even with the assistance of two other photographers (Dustin Francis & Kenny Nakai). After sifting through 10,000, I was able to cull it down to 1200 for submission and 200 for blog/facebook. One of the toughest thing about covering events like this is to see things from different perspectives (attendees, speakers, staff as well as for people that didn’t get to attend WPPI but want to live through the experience vicariously). It was a long and laborious effort and I still have more images to edit through. But I know many of you are expecting anxiously to see the images online so I will leave you with these to share with you:

If you cannot view the slideshow above, click on this link.

Thank you WPPI for this great opportunity. Big shout to Dustin & Kenny that came to help me out. They definitely made this experience more fun. Also, big thanks to Ed Meyers at Canon for loaning me their super sick 200mm F2.0 lens!

Coming soon…
This might be my last official post on xanga. My new blog will be launched next week and I’m stoked to share it with you as soon as it is released. I will keep you guys posted!

Hey everyone, I’m off to Vegas and before I get on my flight (in about 2 mins), I wanted to let you know that I’ll be doing random updates through out the day of my experience there.

Catch me if you can… on Twitter

Follow me on twitter. I will give out a clue or two each day to let you know where I am. If you find me, you’ll get one of my t-shirts!

What is Twitter you ask? I have no time to explain except to say that you should get one if you don’t have one by now. Here’s a link to Wikipedia that explains it better.

See you in Vegas! :)

Canon 200mm F2.0 with Kurt & Leila

Today I got to do something special. First I got to spend the afternoon in Chicago with Kurt & Leila for their engagement session (I will post about their eSession later on but I wanted to talk about something else from this shoot) Second, Canon regional rep Ed Meyers was gracious enough to loan me the beastly lens 200mm F2.0 to use for WPPI next week. So I decided to test this baby out by bringing it to this engagement session. Let’s just say that this lens is sick. I’ve never shot anything so sharp. Granted the lens is pretty heavy and when you open your aperture to F2.0, the focusing plane becomes very shallow but the quality of image makes your jaw drop! Here’s just a few images from the shoot using the new lens:

WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International)
The biggest convention for wedding & portrait photographers is just around the corner. This will be my third time attending and it looks be very promising! I’m very stoked as I will be involved with various things:

1) I will be the official photographer for this conference. Big thanks to Skip Cohen, Arlene Evans and staff for giving me this opportunity.

UPDATE:

2) Pictage – I will be speaking with Robert Evans at the Pictage booth from 12pm to 1pm on Tuesday 2/17! I’m really excited but nervous at the same time. So please come out and support me if you are free! :) Check out other line up of photographers. This is kind of a big deal for me because 2 years ago I was attending WPPI for the first time feeling very intimidated to be there and wondered if I’ll ever get a chance to do something like this. The funny thing is back in May 2007, I made a blog entry about Pictage PartnerCon in Chicago – and to be humorous, I created this image to supplement my post. Little did I know it was going to be true little less than two years from now! It was fun looking back at this image so I wanted to share it with you guys. :)

3) There’s more things but I don’t want to bore you guys with the details. Come say hi when you see me wandering around and we can catch up!

Workshop with Joe Buissink & Jason Groupp in NY!
Two of the finest J’s are coming together to have this one day, back to back workshop in NYC. Unfortunately I cannot attend due to scheduling conflict but I think it’s definitely worth checking out. Click here to find out more info!

That’s it for now. I’ll try to blog more often! I’m still waiting for my new blog to launch soon. Have a great week!
