Last weekend I had the privileging of traveling with Mr. David Burke to shoot a wedding with him. I have to thank him for bringing me out there and introducing me to the awesome couple in Danny & Courtney. We had so much fun at this wedding – I didn’t even feel like I was shooting a wedding. The couple treated us like we were old friends and we did pretty much everything with them from the day we landed until the day we said good bye. We attended their welcoming party, pre-rehearsal party, rehearsal dinner party, the wedding, and even chilling with them the entire day after the wedding! There was so much hugs, laughters and good times all around.

Big thanks again to my friend David for letting me shoot this wedding wedding with him. Hopefully there’s many more to come for us in the future! Here are some images I captured that i wanted to share with you guys:

Courtney anticipating her big day as she looks out into the calm ocean…

In the mean time, Danny and the boys played some beach volleyball…

It was going to be a perfect day. Actually it’s a beautiful day everyday in Cabo…

Her dress was breathtaking…

Courtney getting ready….

The ring boy Dominic thinks it’s HIS big day. :)

Courtney looked stunning…

Danny practiced his Spanish that morning…

Did I mention it was a perfect day in Cabo for a wedding?

The boys are ready. It took them like 15 mins…

Danny is calm and cool before the wedding…

The guests gave a standing ovation as Danny walked down the aisle…

Here comes the beautiful bride…

Loving these emotional moments…

I think the earth stood still and watched while Courtney & Danny exchanged their vows…

“I Courtney, take you Danny, to be my husband…”

You may now kiss the bride…

Again…. :)

And again… :)

Reception was dinner by the beach. Not bad…

We did quick shoot by the beach…

This image is courtesy of David Burke. He was having a blast with off-camera flash while I went to go fetch a horse…

I had to walk over a mile on sand to get this shot. But I think it was worth the effort….

Then it was time to get the party started…

Danny & Courtney danced the night away until they couldn’t dance any more…

The celebration went until the wee hours of the night. It was an unforgettable evening…

I shot an awesome wedding in Chicago yesterday which I will blog about soon. I have one more wedding to go next week in the Bahamas and I’ll be done for 2008. It’s been a good year. I cannot thank everyone around me for making this an unforgettable year!

Day after shooting that fantastic wedding, David Burke & I got a chance to go down to San Lucas town and do the tourist things for couple of hours. It was fun immersing in their culture and doing some sightseeing. Did I mention we were there to shoot a wedding? Sure didn’t feel like it because we had so much fun that weekend. I got to befriend David’s sister in law Brooke and her cool husband Michael and we got to hang out together as well. Here’s some shots from that day:

We almost got hit by speeding cars on several occasions…

Walked around their shopping mall…

That carmel freeze was awfully good…

We took a boat tour around the ocean…

I think this was a pelican – it flew right by us…

This rock is known as the upside-down-state-of-california-map rock – this is where three oceans all bisect each other…

Perfect weather for sailing…

Here’s the famous arch. I forget the name of it. Help? Every 4 years, the tide recedes and a beach appears. This will happen in 2 more years. I might have to come back for that.

Another shot of the arch from the other side…

All the sailing and being out in the sun got us hungry! We stopped at a local hole in the wall restaurant – we had some of the best tacos here. We both ate and were filled. The total bill came out to only $6 bucks (that’s both of us combined – including drinks!)

KK in the house!!!

Then we walked around a bit more to walk off our lunch :)

Hmm, interesting way to sell christmas trees…

Hola amigos! :)

Can you say good times?! :)

UPDATE (12/01/2008): Couple of weeks ago I posted about a project for WPPI that I was involved with out in California. We were with about 24 photographers in Universal City, CA – at Robert Evan’s studio. It was a 24 hour competition/reality tv show where they splitted us into two teams. Each team then had to write, shoot & edit a short film to promote the 2009 WPPi conference and also raise money for two great causes: Thirst Relief International & Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. It was a crazy day and the two videos will be shown soon, and you the photo audience will be able to vote on your favorite video. Here’s the sneak peek trailer:

If you want to check out the other team’s (B) trailer, click here: The Longest Day Website

When the time comes, please vote for our team (A) to win so that we can win the donation to our charity (Thirst Relief). To help w/ the votes, I’m actually partnering with Thirst Relief International – I’ll be coming out with my new Kenny Kim Design shirts in December and percentage of the sales from the shirts will also be donated to Thirst Relief. And the ones that vote for our team (A), some of you will win a t-shirt as a prize!

Below you will see some photos from that day.

END UPDATE

==================================================================

It wasn’t until everything was over that it finally hit me. 24 photographers from around the country gathered under one roof to promote the upcoming WPPI convention in 2009 as well as to raise donations for two very worthy charities: Thirst Relief International & Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep. With collaborative effort and support from our awesome sponsors (Microsoft Expression Media 2, Triple Scoop Music, Asuka Book, Kubota Image Tools, ShowIt Sites, Photographers’ Edit, and Loktah), we were able to raise over $5000 to donate to these two wonderful charities.

For myself personally, it was a dream come true. I got to spend one and half day with these incredibly gifted photographers that I admired and looked up to (which I still do) couple of years ago and teamed up together to work on a reality tv project called “The Longest Day”. In a way it was such a surreal experience and it was a blast to be able to work on something like this, having fun and doing it for the purpose of benefitting a cause greater than ourselves.

As much as I want to share with you guys the details about the project, I’ve been given specific instructions to not mention what the final video is going to be. The synopsis is that we were divided into two teams – one led by an accomplished industry leader in Bambi Cantrell and the other by one and only Fast Track Dane Sanders (I was in that group). We were assigned 24 hours to create a short film (no more than 10 mins) that has to do with photographer. The end result was amazing and we cannot wait for it to air. The show will go online starting early December. Specific locations are TBD. You will be able to view the two videos created by each team then get a chance to vote for your favorite one – the winner of the team will get a chance to donate to their representing charity. Voting will begin closer to WPPI date.

Without further due, I like to thank my new and old friends: David Jay, Joe Photo, Bambi Cantrell, Dane Sanders, Becker, Michele Celentano, Kevin Kubota, Alisha & Brook Todd, Becker, Jen & Steve Bebb, Gene Higa, Catherine Hall, Ann Hamilton, Jules Bianchi, Amber Holritz, Jasmine Star, Jessica Claire, Chris and Katie Humphreys, Bronson Pate, Gene Higa & Ann Hamilton,  and Robert Evans. Another shout out goes out to Gustavo Fernandez, Joy Bianchi and JD De La Torre for your help behind the scenes. Finally Ron Dawson & his film crew for putting this together and making us look good. ;-) (Sorry, there is no way I can link everyone on this list back to their site. Use Google folks. It can find anything!)

If you are viewing these in facebook, I encourage you to visit my blog to see them images in higher resolution. :) I think these photos will speak for themselves. I wish I could give you more info but here’s a glimpse of what to expect!

I’m so excited I cannot contain my emotion! (Thanks to Roberto Valenzuela for this photo)

I learned yesterday that Cabo has sun that rises in an angle so it looks like it rises and sets over the same ocean horizon. The sun is very warm and the location gets only about 3 inches of rain a year. David Burke & I are having a blast getting adjusted to the weather and last night we got to hang out with Danny & Courtney who will be tying the knot this saturday. Danny is a Persian so it was neat to watch the entire family celebrate in Persian style. Did I mention that the weather is absolutely perfect down here? It’s little boring because it’s high 80′s every day with no cloud in the sky. Please don’t hate :)

Any ways, just wanted to share some photos with you that we took casually walking around the resort where the wedding will take place this weekend. Internet is very shaky out here so I’ll post more when it goes back up. Until then… good times!

Meet Courtney & Danny – they are the coolest couple!

A typical day at the beach down here.

Little bit of romance at the beach…

The lighting at night is absolutely gorgeous during the day…

And even at night…

These past few days I’ve spent in California and lot has been going on here. I wanted to wait until the end of my trip but tomorrow starts a whole new adventure that deserves blog entry in itself so I wanted to do a quick recap of what I’ve been up to. Hopefully this won’t be too boring for you guys. :)

My friend Regis Chen and I visited La-Vie album to check out their office and also to see some of their products. Yoshi took us out for lunch and we got to know each other better. Here’s Yoshi showing us some different types of albums La-Vie has to offer.

I attend Long Beach PUG (Picage User Group) meeting at night.

Roberto Valenzuela started out by speaking about incorporating the skills we learned in our previous vocation and applying them to photography.

Then followed Dane Sanders.

It was good to seeing familiar faces here. We had the meeting at the actual Pictage headquarters.

Everything’s big in California – even their PUG meetings!

Dane showing off his mismatching socks.

Dane ran into the wall and make a huge dent to it. You had to be there for this.

I also got to visit the Rangefinder office. I finally got to have lunch w/ Skip Cohen. It took me almost a year and half to make this possible but it was well worth the wait!

Did you know Rangefinder has been around since 1956? Here is the first and the latest issue. Speaking of the latest issue, have checked it out? My photo, along with the images I shot at WPPI are in it. Go check it out!

Skip playing catch with his dog Molly!

Roberto was a professional classical guitarist before he became a photographer so I asked him to play some classical tunes…

Having lunch at the famous IVY restaurant in Beverly Hills with Kim (Roberto’s wife) & Arden

Roberto & Yours truly…

Random kid in the streets of Beverly Hills. She was so sad that I didn’t know what to do…

Rock Band time!

Long live rock n’ roll!

At farmer’s market in the Grove mall.

Ran into Kyle Barnes & Nick Onken at the mall. Here the best group shot we took in front of an elevator door. Arden got cut off :-(

My friend Kari Kimmel performed at the Hotel Cafe. She invited me to come out to photograph the event. Check her out at: KariKimmel.com

Here’s Kari & I after the show

It’s been a blast so far. I think this photo sums up the fun we’ve had in the past few days. Here’s Kim & Roberto Valenzuela – my new friends in Beverly Hills. They’ve been so nice to let me crash w/ them for few days. I can officially say that I’ve lived in Beverly Hills now. :)
