I had an amazing time at yesterday’s wedding with Uncle Mike. I think I’ve wanted to shoot a wedding with him since the first time I’ve heard of Mike. Persistence pays off. :) Everyone at the wedding was so much fun and nice to work with. Mike even trusted me enough to do a slideshow for the guests at the reception and people were glued to my computer looking at his images. I think one of the groomsmen and the mothers of bride & groom must’ve viewed the 200+ slideshow about 10 times before we had to pry them away! :)

I gained even more sense of respect for Mike. Observing him, he is so personable to the bride & groom and everyone loved being around him. I got to look through his images while working on the slideshow and I was amazed at his shots and how technically sound his images were! I think I got a little discouraged looking at them but it was a great learning experience. :)

I’m still recovering from the wedding. I just got up not too long ago and Uncle Mike is still passed out. He blamed me for keeping him up last night. I love spending time w/ him because we’ll stay up until the wee hours of the night just talking about lot of random stuff. Here’s a photo of Rosanna, Me & Mike after the reception. Can I get a good times?!

The weather is amazing here in Chicago today. Have a great day everyone!

I checked into the W hotel today to get ready for this weekend’s wedding with Mike. I got in early so I decided to walk around the city a bit with some of my photog friends (Kristie, Christine & Her husband Mark) that were already in the city. We saw a mob of people standing in front of a hotel building and figured someone famous was nearby. We found out that Barack Obama was in town staying at the hotel where everyone was gathered:

Kristie and I were standing on the other side of the street just like the rest of the photographers that were lined up in hopes to get a shot of the presidential candidate. After a few minutes, we saw a line of government cars pulling out of the hotel parking lot. Then we saw Barack sitting in the rear-passenger side and quickly realized that I was not going to get a shot of him if the car turned right.

So in my instinct, we crossed the street, cutting off the car that Barack was in, :) getting honked by the secret service agent driver in hopes to get a decent angle. This was the best shot that I could get of him. But Barack was literally less than 5 ft from me:

Talk about an adventurous day! :) Now we are back at the hotel and Mike and I are getting ready to get some rest for tomorrow’s big day. Here’s mike practicing his good hygiene skills:

Ok, this post was sort of random but I really wanted to share that image of Barack with you guys. Good times! :)

This past couple of days, bunch of my photographer friends were in town so I’ve been busy taking them around to places and just hosting them. We’ve been having so much fun but I haven’t had an chance to get any work done! Normally I try to reply to all my facebook/blog comments but I’ve accumulated over 300+ of them in the past couple of days so if I forget, I apologize now. Thanks guys! Keep the love coming! Here’s couple of fun photos from the day: (Thanks to Kristie Hancock for some of the photos!):

Kristie Hancock posed us like we were the groomsmen!

We’re just that silly

Terell Lloyd was in town to photograph the Bears vs 49er’s game.

I’ll post more photos later. :) Good times!

DJ’s Free to Succeed Tour came to Chicago and as I anticipated, it did not disappoint! With over 190 in attendance, it was literally standing-room only turn out. Thanks to everyone that came out! We had people all the way from California, Baltimore, Iowa, Wisconsin, St. Louis, Indiana and Michigan that came out to join in on the fun! I love meeting new photographers at these kind of seminars.

DJ kicked off the night talking about the pathway to freedom. His talk is always inspirational and practical. I always tell people, even if you are not a photographer, to come out because his message can be applied to just about everyone! Then Jasmine dazzled the audience with her dynamic, engaging and heart-warming talk about the importance of branding and leveraging yourself with your assets. I’m amazed at how she can connect with everyone in the audience. All eyes were glued to her and smiles were seen every where as she told stories and examples from her life. Then after a short break, DJ came back on to complete the seminar. It’s so great to see so many nodding heads and smiles of people that are agreeing to the suggestions and advice he was giving. I’m amazed at how DJ finds all these great and inspirational quotes. I think he has pocketful of them that he just pulls out whenever it’s appropriate.

In the end, it was another successful night. I’m so proud of the Chicago folks for coming out! I think we’ve had and will always have the biggest turn out for these events. After the show, a few of us stayed until past 2am just hanging out and networking with each other. Click on the photo to go to my facebook to view all the photos from the night:

On a lighter note, here’s a photo that someone took of my friend Sarah Barlow. Normally I’m not surprised by blurry or off-centered photos taken of me. I thought it was hilarious and kind of surprised that a photo like this was taken at a professional photographer seminar. :) (I’m sure it was just a mistake and the other person was a nikon shooter who wasn’t used to shooting a Canon camera? :) )

I can’t wait for this weekend. Mike Colón is coming into town and I get to shoot a wedding with him!

I will be in NY, Boston & DC next week w/ the tour. Hope to see some of you guys there! If you guys are going to those cities, I have a few coupons to give out for those cities since I will be there. If you email me a photo with a sign “Free to Succeed” (be creative/funny), I will give you guys a 50% coupon. The best one will win a seat in each city that I will be visiting!

I got Dane’s book: Fast Track Photographer last week and I just got done reading the introduction & Chapter 1. I had to stop, put the book down and walk to the computer to share this with all of you.

First of all, I have to admit, when I first heard that Dane wrote a book about photography, I thought to myself that this is going to be just another book – just like how there has been so many emergences of photo workshops this year. But boy was I wrong!!! After just reading chapter one, I wanted to pause, get down on my knees and repeatedly bow to Dane with my hands up in the air (picture Wayne & Garth in the movie Wayne’s world) and say: “THANK YOU for writing this book!”

Before I read any further, I can already tell that this book is going to hit the mark! Dane is the John Ortberg of Photography! :) I’m so thankful that he took the time to write a book about a subject that needs to be addressed in this industry. I can already tell that he is going to help me figure out what it was that made my business grow at such rapid rate in the past 2 1/2 years of being in this industry! It may sound like a good thing, but in some sense, I was a bit confused and was driving me crazy that I couldn’t figure it out. This book, I can tell is going to help answer so many of my inner questions about what I do as a photographer!

Any ways, before I go on any further, please do yourself a favor and go buy his book and read it. You’ll be glad you did! I even made an easy image link to website below:

By the way, I’m really stoked about seeing everyone tonight at DJ’s Freedom Tour in Chicago!
