UPDATE:: Last week I had a chance to hang out w/ the one and only Becker. He did a mini-interview with me which I thought he was doing for fun. Then I find out that he actually posted it on his [b] school blog! Too funny. I’m really humbled and flattered. I look like a dork when I see myself but any ways, if you want to get a good laugh, go visit his blog here and leave him a nice comment!

::END UPDATE

I have some cool news! A while back I found out that my wedding photo spread will be featured in the Destination Weddings & Honeymoon Magazine. I was really excited about it from the beginning but I wanted to wait until it came out on the newsstand before I shared it with everyone. This wedding took place in the Paradise Island, Bahamas last year. Joe & Jina Chung comissioned me and my second shooter Tomas Flint to come out and help captured their memorable weekend. We had such blast at this wedding. I reunited with some old friends and made ton of new ones as well. From this wedding, I directly booked 2 more weddings: One in San Francisco (back in April) and another one back in the Bahamas again later on this year. My good friend & a very talented DJ – Roberto Monastero was also there mixing during reception – and the guests filled the dance floor right until the last song!

This was such an exciting opportunity for us and I’m thankful for everyone that helped make it possible. Since this was my very first feature in a nationally distributed magazine so I am delighted about what this feature might bring in the near future. A big thanks to my second shooter Tomas Flint who came out and worked tirelessly to capture some awesome moments. I also like to thank DWF’s editor in chief Susan Moynihan and their photo editor Diane Rice for selecting my wedding to be one (out of 4) to be featured in this amazing magazine!

Be sure to stop by your local bookstore (Borders or B&N) to check out the latest fall issue (p.58-59). I’ll be sure to post another wedding that will be featured in The Knot magazine in the upcoming future! Thanks everyone and have a great Labor Day Weekend!

My apologies to the DC folks for not getting this up sooner. Last couple of days were filled with spending time w/ the freedom tour gang and last night we were out celebratingDJ’s Birthday so it was tough to get things done. I just arrive back in Chicago and am still in the process of unpacking. I’m finally back home now and hope to get back to the swing of things again.

One of my favorite moments about this tour is when DJ empowers us to network amongst the local photographers. I got energizes seeing a room full of folks that didn’t know each other at first starting to network at the end of the night. I loved seeing them develop a small community through it.

DC folks are fun, young, and full of energy. It was great spending time with the 100 folks that were there on Thursday night. Again, for me it was neat meeting folks that were my online friends in person. Please watch the ShowIt Web slideshow or visit my Facebook Gallery for photos. The ones below highlight more what we did in the last couple of days:

I love the State capitol. With all the politics going on, it was exciting to be here.

DC Metro is one of the cleanest, and organized subway system in the country. I love commuting around here.

Smithsonian American Art Museum – we got to check out the Presidential portraits inside.

Here’s a portrait of Ben Franklin that was painted in the late 1700’s. Later on, this painting was use to replicate the face on the $100 bill.

So I was meandering around the Smithsonian American Art Museum and guess who I run into? Wow, what are the chances? Small world indeed!!!

The ceiling of the museum was making me dizzy…talk about optical illusion!

That’s Becker & Regis walking in the background. Just trying to show you some side of them that you don’t normally get to see.

I think these are one of those Rent-a-bikes that you can get to stroll around the city.

These guys were a blast to hang out and chill with. I finally met someone in Regis who is more addicted to Starbucks than I am! Hard to believe, I know…

I love photographing people. They fascinate me.

I got lucky with this shot but I liked the result. We were walking around the Mall and a flock of birds suddenly flew right over us. My instinct kicked in and caught this shot.

This was an interesting tattoo on a random person. It was tricky getting right behind her w/o her knowing it.

Finally we celebrated DJ’s 29th birthday last night we few close friends of DJ’s by having dinner at La Tasca’s Spanish Tapas Bar. The ambiance here was lively!

They even had live flamenco dancers. They were good dancers too! :)

I’m happy for DJ that he’s doing what he loves and sharing that with other people in this industry. I’m thankful to be his friend and look forward to continuing our friendship in the future!

Thanks to Becker who surprised all of us (not just DJ) but covering the entire bill! I was glad to spend some time with him this week and even learned some insightful poker tips from the guy! I attended his very first Party of 5 workshop two years ago and I learned pretty much everything I needed to start my wedding business in one day. Of course I learned other things from other great photographers along the way but the jam-packed info in that one day workshop was what I needed to get a boost start in my business.

Since then I haven’t had much chance to hang out with him because both of us were extremely busy. But on this trip, we got to know each other little bit. I know some folks have mixed feelings about him because he’s a straight shooter and is not afraid to express his opinions. And his opinions might have rubbed some people the wrong way. But I respect him for that. And deep down inside he’s a generous and giving guy and loves helping people in this industry. I’m thankful to him for where I am today as well and I can’t wait for his [b] School to launch. I got to see the in’s n out of it and it’s pretty exciting!

Here are some photos from the seminar:

August 27, 2008

So the day after our seminar, we had some time to look around the city. We took a cab into Newburry area and walked around, window shopped and tried our best to blend into the Bostonian culture. It is beautiful here. Landscape, people, ladies, and the whole nine yards. I think I can definitely live here – except during the winter time! Here are some photos we snapped through out the day.

I’ve been hanging out with my friend Becker and he inspired me to make my images big again and convinced me put my logo on my image instead of the border:

This is a bridge near Highway 1 by the Old Naval Shipyard…

DJ asking the security guard to call us a cab so we can get into the city

Our cab driver was something else. He talked the entire time with that heavy Baahston accent…

We finally arrived on Newburry street. Deciding where to go for lunch at 5:00pm…

I feel weird but this guy looked like a stud/model so I snapped a photo of him…

Some random shots around the city…

Meet Allie…

& DJ… scroll down below for some “paparazzi-style” eSession photos of them…

So I wanted to get some shots of DJ & Allie for them. Except we didn’t want to do the typical engagement session photos. So I decided to become a paparazzi and take photos of them pretending to be celebrities…

Updated 9/2: Then this gal (Her name is Cheri) came up to me and asked if I was photographing someone famous. :) When I told her no, then I asked if I could take a picture of her & she gladly obliged. She works for the Boston Herald!

Some more photos – near Boston Common…

We then made our way over to the Cheers bar “where everybody knows your name.” We went inside to grab some drinks for good time sake.

Becker’s upset with the folks that just walked right by his shot. What’s up with that?! :)

Boston nightlife…

Shyla took us over to Mike’s Pastry shop. There was a line out the door. Something must be good inside!

Becker & Regis reminds me of Batman & Robin. Here’s their reaction to all the goodies in the store: “Holy Canolie Batman!”

We must’ve bought $50 bucks worth of pastries here. Actually Becker paid for all of us. :) What nice guy!

Finally this morning we got a chance to take a tour of the White House thanks to my friend Tina Wei! We were not allowed to take any photos inside so here’s us after brunch at Old Ebbitt Grill. We’re little wet after rain.

We’re back on the bus now getting ready for tonight’s seminar in DC. Looking forward to seeing everyone here. Peace out! :)

August 26, 2008

After our fun trip in NY, we hopped on our bus and drove straight to the good ol’ Beantown. We didn’t get a chance to look around the city much but hopefully we’ll have some chance to cruise around the city today. Bahston folks were terrific. You know it’s a good crowd when people laugh at DJ’s jokes. :) In all seriousness, over 100 folks came out and had a blast. It was good to see some of my photog friends and meet some new ones as well.

Welcome to Boston – home of the defending World Series Champions Boston Red Sox:

ET is totally stoked about the seminar. He’s got his packet and ready to rock the seminar! (Thanks to Gregg Akoury for letting me borrow his buddy. :)

Bob Pattison brought some cool gifts for Jasmine & Becker. He’s a really cool photographer from Boston according to Becker and we all know Becker tells it like it is. :)

Someone discovered Jasmine’s secret identity! :)

Gotta love Jasmine’s red shoes.

This was Jasmine’s last stop of the tour. She is now going back to her very busy wedding schedule. We will miss her so much! Allie surprised her with flowers after her talk was over.

I know JD is her husband but why is he being so creepy? :)

Watch your hands sir! She’s married and so are you! Totally kidding. That’s actually Ken and his wife next to Jasmine. Anyone with a name like that is gotta be an awesome photographer!

Becker again hopped on towards the end and gave us a brief tour about [b] school. I’m so amped about it. He’s going to be speaking more since Jasmine will not be on board.

Congratulations to DJ for making the cover of Triathlete magazine! All that hard work and training during the tour is paying off!

After the seminar was over, Shyla surprised us by making reservations at the Top of the Hub “aka Prudential Towers Restaurant on 52nd floor”.

It was nice for all of us to get together for dinner looking over the city. For Todd Watson, JD and Jasmine, this was their last stop on their tour so it was good to be with them one last time together over nice dinner. Regis Chen and i shared a pasta dish together. It felt like we were on a date together. :) Why did I just share that?! By the way did you notice JD and Jasmine making out in the photo? What’s up with that?!

Since Boston is known for their Clam Chowder, I had to get one. And even with the hype, it didn’t disappoint. :)

Here are the rest of the photos in the slideshow. You can also view them on my facebook gallery:

August 25, 2008

After taking some time off, I am back on the tour bus for few more cities. New York is such an exciting city. After shooting a wedding with Mike this weekend, I took an early flight out to NY to meet up with the gang in Flushing, NY. The hotel was located right near chinatown so I thought I was in Beijing attending the Olympics. :) Something about NY brings everyone together. I was so stoked to see so many of my photographer friends here:

I thought someone was taking a photo of me at first so I smiled. Then I realized she was taking a photo of DJ. :-)

Jasmine hyping up DJ before he came out on stage.

JD & Jasmine are such an awesome couple. Ive heard so much about JD through Jasmine’s blog but I finally got to meet him yesterday. Here’s JD praying for his wife before she goes on stage to speak.

It’s so fun to see them interact with each other.

Another couple that will make you go gah gah is DJ & Allie. :)

DJ is such a ham. :)

I have no idea what Todd & Brett are talking about. They are probably discussing what to eat after the seminar.

My friends Regis and Keats Elliott came all the way from California to hang out with us.

DJ giving us a little demo of Showit Sites

The one and only [b]ecker made a cameo appearance. He gave a brief talk about his upcoming [b]school. It’s going to be awesome. Just think Twitter, Facebook, Online forum and shopping all combined into one. :)

I think the Asian photographers outnumbered everyone tonight. It’s good go finally meet my online friends. Asians UNITED! :)

So good to see you Keats! :)

Got to chat with some other cool photogs Ahmet, Syed and Paris!

There’s more photos here. Check out the ShowIt Web slideshow. (Music courtesy of Koo Chung)
