Hey everyone. Tonight we finished our stop #3 in Dallas. I had a strange suspicion that Dallas was going to have a big turn out. Surely enough, just before 6, we had a line of people waiting to get into the seminar that coiled around inside the building all the way out the main entrance. Over 110 people filled the seats inside Sheraton’s meeting room. Dallas photogs had so much energy! We have to give a shout out to Oklahoma and Louisiana – they drove 3+ hours to attend this event. I sometimes look at their dedication and envy their desire to learn and grow as photographers!

Here’s a group photo of some of the folks that got to tour the bus today. Thanks everyone for coming by! Jason and his friends brought us cookies so big shoutout to them!

Finally, this is my last stop on this tour for now. I won’t be joining these wonderful guys in their west coast trip. I have to go back to reality and actually shoot some weddings and help out at various events. :-( I’m going to miss them but at the same time look forward to reconnecting with them in about a week or so. Thanks everyone!

I got this from Shyla’s blog. Jason Lackey from ShowIT sites decided to draw cartoon version of all of us on the Tour with DJ & Jasmine. This cracked me up and helped me cheer up while waiting over 4 hrs because of my flight delay to Chicago. And check out the bus: I am [...]

I got this from Shyla’s blog. Jason Lackey from ShowIT sites decided to draw cartoon version of all of us on the Tour with DJ & Jasmine. This cracked me up and helped me cheer up while waiting over 4 hrs because of my flight delay to Chicago.

And check out the bus:

I am getting off the bus for several cities as I have eSessions, wedding and other events to cover back home. But I’ll be back on the bus soon! Growing up, I always wanted to be in a rock n’ roll band so this is like living my childhood dream. :) Our bus driver Jay (not DJ) told us that Robert Plant from (Led Zepplin) was on our bus before we got on. How cool is that?!

Until next time, Go Cubs!

East Meets West Workshop
Oh and there’s a one day photography workshop in NYC that is taking place in October you might want to check out. It’s called East Meets West hosted by Gene Higa (Top 10 Photographer) and Jason Groupp (NYC’s finest). If you are interested in going, click here. Contact me (via email) and I can send you a code to help you save $25 bucks! With the gas prices soaring high, any savings will help, right? ;-)

We’re on the tour stop #2. Austin greeted us with more warm weather and friendly faces! :) We arrived in the morning and we had some time to kill so Paul & Shyla decided to do a fun photoshoot. Shyla was the photographer and Paul voluntarily became the roadkill plastered to the bus (see below). Our tour bus was so big that when we parked in front of the hotel, we caused a major traffic jam. An angry cop came and told us that we had to move – I wish I took a photo of the cop – I gotta think faster next time.

You gotta love Texas – they love their state! Everywhere I went, I saw one these:

We wanted to give a big shout out to these guys who drove all the way from Mexico. They were so cool and fun to hang out with. ⁄¡Viva Mexico!

This is us on the bus after the seminar. We stopped by Waddaburger (sp?) for late night meal run. I decided to be good and not eat a whole burger and split one w/ DJ. :)

Finally, I just wanted to give a big shout out to Ron Dawson & DJ. Ron just launched F-Stop Beyond (In Living Color) this week and his first interviewee was DJ. Go there to find out more about what this golden boy is all about! Be sure to leave some comment b/c Ron might do a drawing in the end! Congrats DJ! We were all nervous and anxious about Houston as it was the first night of the tour. We didn’t know what to expect: How many people will show up, what the atmosphere was going to be like, technical difficulties, etc. But to all our surprise, everything went smoothly. We had over 95 folks show up and Houston crowd did not disappoint! Everyone was eager to learn from DJ and Jasmine. Everyone loves DJ and couldn’t wait to hear him speak. This was Jasmine’s first speaking engagement but to our surprise, she did such an incredible job. The audience connected with her immediately and fell in love with her. She speaks from the heart and just like her blog, people were drawn to her. I thought this photo was pretty funny and summed up what I was talking about:

CAPTION: A NEW ‘STAR’ IS BORN

:) In all seriousness, the first night was a blast. DJ & Jasmine feed off each other really well – like a 1-2 combo punch! Do yourself a favor and sign up for this great workshop. You’ll have a chance to network with ton of photographers in your area, walk away challenged and inspired to become a better photographer/person and have a blast while doing it! You may get a sneak peak of the tour bus as well!

As I mentioned in my previous entry, I expect the Chicago folks to represent again by selling the most seats! I have some coupon codes to give away for 50% off so if you leave a nice comment here and email me at kenny@kennykim.com, I may send you one for your city (more likely if you are from Chicago!).

Check out some images from last night. Or scroll down to view even more photos on ShowIt Web slideshow. Thanks everyone. Austin, here we come!

In another note, my good friends Gene Higa & Jason Groupp are teaming up together to put together an awesome workshop – East meets the West! I told myself I wasn’t going to go to any more workshop (other than the ones I already signed up for) but looks like I’ll have to add another one to the list. Click on their names to find out more!
END EDIT

It’s getting late and I’m going to do my best to blog every night about the tour. I guess I’ll just nominate myself to be the unofficial designated blogger for DJ’s tour. We all gathered day early before the start of the tour tomorrow. I am still a bit tired since I came back from Nebraska yesterday but I’m slowly getting my energy back. So tonight we just got together informally, got reacquainted with everyone and tomorrow we’ll have our official meeting to talk about what’s going to happen.

Couple of local friends, Laura & Ann Marie (sp?) from Houston took us out to a fun mexican restuaurant called Lupe Tortilla. Their tortilla was pretty off the hook. We ate until we had our fill plus more. It’s going to be a long week and we are looking forward to it! I’ll blog more about it tomorrow.

By the way, I expect the Chicago folks to represent again by selling the most seats! I have some coupon codes to give away for 50% off so if you leave a nice comment here and email me at kenny@kennykim.com, I may send you one for your city (more likely if you are from Chicago!) Good times!
