This past weekend I shot 2 weddings in one day. I don’t recommend this to my fellow photographers out there and I seriously could not have pull this off without the help of my second shooters. Big thanks to Kenny Nakai & David Lai.

The first wedding went well and you couldn’t ask for a better weather. The second one, however, gave us a little scare. For all your west coast wedding photographers out there, this will show you why we feel lucky/fortunate when we can have an outdoor wedding here in the midwest.

30 minutes before the ceremony is suppose to start:

Yes. That is rain AND hail coming down. At this point we are ready to move things inside. But the bride still had hope and prayed for good weather. (By the way, the dj was setting up his sound equipment outside. He was stuck under the tree and could not move. He got DRENCHED in rain. Poor soul…)

I kid you not, 15 minutes later, this is what we get:

We ended up having the ceremony outside. The weather was gorgeous again. Gotta love Chicago weather. Mother nature likes to keep us on our toes.

The two wedding day wiped me out. I spent most of Sunday sleeping in after church. Tomorrow I am getting some acupuncture for my tenosynovitis. It has gotten worse since last diagnosed. Wish me luck!

I met Lejla through her brother (good friend of mine) Amer. (The groom’s name is Amir — not to confuse with her brother Amer). When she asked me to photograph her wedding I was so excited – I felt like I was shooting my own family’s wedding. It was a beautiful Bosnian Muslim wedding – something I never experienced before. I love learning about new cultures so to be able to witness someone making a commitment of union in a different culture was not only educational but also beautiful.

We started the day capturing some “getting ready” moments at the W Hotel in Chicago. Then we trekked through mad Chicago traffic and made our way over the the Islamic Cultural Center in Northbrook, IL. After the wedding, we headed back into the city to the Westin Hotel where a group of very close family and friends gathered together for a night of fine dining and celebrating.

It was good to see my friend Amer again – I don’t get to see him as much these days now that he’s playing as a professional tennis player in the ATP circuit. So to see him for that night was a treat.

Thanks to Shane Melenbacker who survived the long weekend with me! This was the second wedding of the weekend and we were pretty tired after this. My good buddy Kenny Nakai also joined us and helped us along. These guys spent about 30 mins on their own photographing the rings! I don’t know what they did but it sured turned out awesome!

Here are some images from that special day:

Congratulations guys! :)

Also I’m stoked – just found out I’ll be doing some destination weddings later on this year with my fellow photog buddies – Key West with Alex Rodriguez and another with Tomas Flint in Puerto Rico. Tomas and I have already shot few weddings together and we’re shooting another one in the Bahamas again in December. I think we can team up to be the Destination Duo Photographers!

Here’s a shot I found online of the location we’ll be at:

Can I get a good times?!

UPDATE:
Just wanted to update this blog and give a big shoutout and congrats to my friend Mike Colón. He just announced on his blog about a sick wedding he shot in Aruba last weekend. Who’s wedding was it? It was none other than Timbaland (aka Timothy Mosley) & Monique!!!

Due to non-disclosure agreement, he was not allowed to share this with anyone but now that the event is over, you’ll probably see his images al over US weekly sometime next week. I’m so proud of Mike and feel fortunate to call him a friend. I’m going to do a separate post about how Mike & I became friends eventually at another date.

Mike has covered numerous celebrities and “high-end” brides. He is one of the top sought-after wedding photographers in this industry. He is considered a “Legends Behind the Lens” by Nikon, one of few titles & sponsors given out to few elite photographers around the world.

Visit his blog and leave him a big congratulatory note!

Congrats Mike! You ARE “Big Time!” ;-)

END UPDATE

I think I am still recuperating from this weekend. It’s that tired feeling that you get all over your body and the heaviness that you feel under your eyes…but it’s a good tired feeling. Satisfied. I slept for about 8 hrs to catch up on sleep this morning but I’m still feeling little sluggish. So much happened this weekend but it all seems like a blur. Good things I take photos for living so that these moments are not forgotten!

I wanted to briefly show some images from each event. I’ll do an individual blog posts about them later but here’s the run down:

Truman & Anna tied their knot this Saturday!

Here’s the little fella that greeted me at the door when I arrived at Anna’s house!

Anna looked stunning in her wedding dress…

It’s a bit rainy that morning but that didn’t keep the guys from having fun!

When we arrived at the Catigny Park, the weather was perfect! We did some fun photo shoot!

Their first dance was well choreographed and entertaining! After a few minutes, then entire wedding party joined in. It was like a scene from the movie “Dirty Dancin’”.

DJ Chris Mix from NY did an awesome job keeping everyone on the dance floor. Anna took charge and lead everyone on their toes until the very last song! :)

Then on Sunday, I picked up my good friends Mike & Rachel Larson from the airport. We trekked over to South Bend, Indiana – the Fighting Irish land. We also met up w/ Matt Hall and the four of us teamed up to shoot this beautiful wedding at the Tippecanoe Place

This gorgeous mansion was once the home of Clement Studebaker.

The flower girl was so cute! I asked her to say cheese and she wouldn’t. So when I asked her to say “cookies” she chuckled. :)

Rose (the bride) was stunning. And her dress was breathless!

Mike put me in charge to take care of the boys so we had our share of fun.

I haven’t done “The Toss” pose in a while and this group seemed perfect to do it. I think they had fun doing it. :)

After a brief stint of rain, we were blessed with a rainbow. I had to take them outside during reception for this shot

The groomsmen disappeared during reception then suddenly came back dressed like this. How funny is that?!

So get this proposal story. (I got this image and story from Mike). Joel buried this box in the ground near a tree, and many months later he brought his girlfriend Rose to the tree, unburied it, and had his proposal note in the box in the orange orchard. How awesome is that? I’m going to have to steal this idea. :D

Big thanks to Mike Larson for letting me tag along for this wedding! It was such a blast. At this wedding, the family & guests kept asking me if I was the famous photographer from California (referring to Mike). At first I said no I am not – then after about 10 questions I just said, yes I am. :) (just kidding). Here’s all of us after everything’s over!

Wait, it’s not over. Then on Monday, I drove back to Chicago, picked up my friend photographer Tina Tcholakian from NY and along with my assistant David Lai, we went over to downtown Chicago to do an awesome engagement shoot with Edmond & Angela.

She initially contacted me to do her wedding but I was unfortunately booked that weekend already. But she still wanted some engagement session photos done so I was stoked about that!

They had such a cute dog named Sky. He insisted that he come along and be part of the shoot. :) He’s such a ham! :)

I can’t get a human baby to sit still yet look at this guy! I love it. :)

Here are some fun shots around the city…I love Chicago!

Angela is going to be a stunning bride! I am so bummed I can’t shoot her wedding. :-(

Talk about a lady in red! Her bright red dress made everyone turn heads!

She even got proposed by the Hershey’s Kisses Man!

It’s a good sign when you get a kiss at the end of the day! :)

Angela wanted to know what it was like to be on the other side of the camera. We gave her a taste of it. I don’t think she enjoyed the viewfinder too much. :D

My friend and talented photographer Tina was in town shooting her own gig and had time to hang out with me. She shot some photos of me in action w/o me knowing! Sneaky!

Big thanks to Tina & David for helping out!

All in all, it was a fun weekend. Whew, I’m tired but I’m blessed to be part of such a fun industry. Good times!

It is almost 3am on Friday night. I have a wedding to shoot that starts at 8:30am. My second shooter David Lai is with me and sleeping over. You are probably asking, why in the world are you not sleeping?!? And my answer to that is, I honestly don’t know. We serious love what we do and it’s keeping us up all night. I was going to blog about this wedding a few days later but I love this couple and I want to put this up ASAP so that I can share it with everyone.

Brian & Annabelle are a special couple. I love their chemistry and even hearing about how they met makes me become a hopeless romantic. I’m thankful for these guys because I feel like they started out as my clients and now I can call them friends. Their ceremony was very God-centered. Even during reception, the famous Lakeview Praise Band led the guests in singing of few praise songs before the program began. And who can forget Brian & Annabelle’s first dance!? All of us looked at each other and thought we were watching a live taping of Dancing With The Stars!

All in all, it was a beautiful wedding. I was fortunate to have a talented calibre of team helping me out with this wedding. We had so much fun and stayed until the end of reception hanging out. Thank you so much to Bob, Shane and Priscilla for coming out to help me cover this event.

The images you see are culmination of all of our work. It was tough narrowing down the 5,000+ number of images but we were able to narrow it down to about 850. Feel free to visit my facebook to see more images on showit web slideshow.
