March 20, 2007

I had a great weekend. I take that back – Friday wasn’t so great as I witnessed our beloved Illini practically give away the game to VT that they should have won easily. But on Saturday I got to spend shooting James & Jane’s wedding (which I will blog about later). Then early Sunday before, I think before even Jesus got up, I hopped on a plane to LA to attend P. John Teter’s Sunday Service (which I will also blog about later) to worship with their congregation and to witness God working in their group. Then in the afternoon I met up with a great couple Juan & Jackie at the beautiful gardens of Pasadena Historical Library. (This was a gorgeous place – a must see for all the outdoor/nature lovers! Again I will blog about this later).

Okay moving on, here are some photos from Catanus Wedding Part 2. First one to go was John and this past weekend his brother Godfrey tied the knot with Corinth. They got married at their home church where Godfrey is one of the assistant pastors. His father is the senior pastor so I guess you can say that they pretty much own the church. After the beautiful ceremony, they had a short cake cutting reception at the church gynasium. (They had one of my favorite appetizers – filipino egg rolls along with other delicious finger foods.) Then they continued the celebration at the nearby Chandler’s steakhouse.

All in all, it was great seeing familiar faces from the first wedding and being and able to reconnect with them. I also got to meet some new faces. At this wedding I found out I had a kennykimdotcom photography fan club out there. You guys are awesome! I love the Catanus family and I wish them the best of luck and blessings in the years to come. I posted alot of photos here (about 100) so sit back, relax, and enjoy!

To order any prints, visit Pictage.com and enter “Godfrey & Corinth” in the event box.

People literally flew in from all over the world to help this couple celebrate their wedding. Eric & Carol are the most thoughtful people I’ve met! From the beginning until the end, often times I felt like a VIP guest attending the wedding because they were always making sure I had everything I needed to make my trip comfortable. For them, I wasn’t just another venue – I was one of their guest (See one of my fellow photographer’s blog). This is why I enjoy doing what I do. Also, I think that’s just a small reflection of their big and sincere hearts that they have for people. They got married at the church that they are both attending in Racine, Wisconsin. Congratulations guys!

(You can view the complete gallery and order prints from this wedding by visiting pictage.com and typing in “Eric & Carol’s Wedding” in the event box.)

Last year in April, I had the privilege of capturing John & Christine Catanus’ wedding. It’s been almost a year now and I am back at the same church this weekend to shoot the wedding of his brother Godfrey & Corinth De La Cruz. Godfrey & Corinth both stood at their wedding so it was only fitting for Christine and John to return the favor by being by their side for the wedding celebration. I also met some really interesting and fun people at the rehearsal.

For example, did you guys know Walter Garcia had a younger brother? Can you guess which one and his name?

I also got to meet Kathy and Valerie – identical twins! Can you tell which one’s which? Neither can I!

The Catanus boys (Godfrey, John & J Boy) are a riot. They are so fun to photograph because every moment they are doing something goofy without even them realizing that they are doing it! If I get to shoot J Boy’s wedding in the future, I think I will award myself the Triple Crown of wedding photography.

But finally, this weekend belongs to Godfrey & Corinth. Here’s quick shot I took of them after their rehearsal. Congratulations and I look forward to shooting your wedding on Saturday!

EDIT: I just got back from Wisconsin. Had a great time hanging out with the Lin/Kee family. I’ll update more later. But here’s a pic from that day. Even though it was freezing outside, we managed to get a quick 8 minute outdoor photoshoot. Carol and Eric were troopers bearing the frigid wisconsin weather. Congratulations! END EDIT

After weaving through hours of traffic and dangerous road condition, I finally made it up to Wisconsin – home of the Green Bay Packers. I’m here this weekend to shoot Eric & Carol’s wedding. They are such a happy couple and the hazardous weather didn’t stop their family and friends from coming out to support them during their rehearsal. I spent the night getting to know all the family members and the bridal party so that come tomorrow, they will see me as their “old friend with a fancy camera”. Getting to know them ahead of time helps me to shoot comfortably and it helps them to get “warmed up” for tomorrow’s photoshoot so that they will not feel awkward being constantly photographed.

Everything went well tonight and I’m just getting ready to wind down to get ready for the big day tomorrow. But I thought I’d mention about this guy that I met tonight. I actually don’t know what his name, but for the purpose of this blog, I shall call him Cousin Bob. Cousin Bob must have been really happy for Eric and Carol. He was very trigger happy tonight. I think he actually took 3 times more photos than I. Every moment during the rehearsal and the dinner, he was there to capture the action. I usually don’t mind when there are other photographers there – the more the merrier – but Cousin Bob kept getting in my way. He always stood right in front of where I stood and followed me like a shadow popping up in front of my camera right as I am about to shoot. I was really close to saying something to him but I held myself back. I must’ve taken like 50 photos just like this:

But one of the challenges as a wedding photographer is to work around guys like Cousin Bob. After all, I try to blend in with the rest of the group so I have to see Cousin Bob as another obstacle I have to weave through. I’m sure he will have nice set of photos to give to the B&G. Any ways, I’m really looking forward to shooting this wedding tomorrow. I met some great people tonight and they are all excited about tomorrow’s wedding.

CFC Tax Ministry

This is a quick plug-in for CFC tax ministry. If you are like me, you probably have no clue when it comes to filing your taxes. I know it’s already March but if you still haven’t filed your taxes, have no fear – CFC tax ministry is here. Just download this checklist (excel file) then submit it to one of the members on the tax ministry. They are all experience and working professionals who are expert in this field. The service is free but it is donation based (going to church as offering). If you have any question,s please contact Dae W. Kang: dwkang a t gmail dot com. May the peace be with you and return you high refunds this year.

So it looks like the disasterous flood (see few posts below) that occured in my house couple of weeks ago is turning out for the better. The plumbing company took the blame for what happened and their insurance covered everything including the damage and personal items that got ruined. Now I have a clean carpet, brand-new top of the line padding and free shampooing of the carpet to make it even cleaner than it was before. Fortunately the water that leaked into my house was clean so I didn’t have worry about it causing smell or cause mold. Thanks to people that called, brought food, prayed, etc. I really appreciate your support during this time!

I’m in the mood to get into tennis this year. I tried playing basketball again last week after taking about 2 1/2 months off and I literally had a heart attack on the court. All the regulars that play with me asked what was wrong. I am seriously out of shape because of my schedule.

So I’m going to slowly get back into shape by playing some tennis. If you guys want to play, then leave your email and name here (from Champaign) and I’ll send out an email a day or two in advance before to see who’s available to play. It will be like an unofficial league – no commitment but just love the game of tennis. You have to have non-marking actual tennis shoes (Atkins Center policy) and your own racket to play. We’ll be playing indoors so you also need to pay about 5 bucks to play until it gets nice enough to play outdoors (then it’s free). It will probably be around noon to 1ish during the weekdays. Any ways, I’m not sure if I’ll get any responses back but thought I’d throw that out there.
