February 23, 2007

What a day. Now that all the chaos is some what under control, let me recap you on what happened today. I woke up this morning saw that my room had a huge puddle of water. Then I walked out into the kitchen/living area and saw about 2-3 inches of water.

For a moment I was convinced that I was dreaming and told myself “man, this is a pretty vivid and realistic dream….I’m going to have to remember this one.” But then I slip and fall by accident and the splash of cold water woke me up and realized that this was reality. Then I hear a loud hiss coming from the garage. So I opened the garage and this is what I see:

So I immediately made some calls and people were out in minutes to assess the situation. Apparently the main pipe that leads to my house has broken off and it was gushing out gallons of water into my house. Not cool. Here these two guys are trying to shut of the valve to the pipe but the switch is covered in several inches of ice. So they had to melt the ice using a torch!

After about an hour or so, they final shut the water off. But by then it was too late and 90% my house was soaked in water. And the whole time I was thinking “man I can’t believe this is happening to me.” I had to call and cancel all the appointments and the photoshoots for that day.

This van was parked in my driveway until about 8pm. I couldn’t get out of the house because of that. But thankfully, Karen Seo brought me some food because she realized I was stuck at home all day and I didn’t eat. Mad props to Karen for going out of her way. Indeed, actions speak louder than words.

Here’s what my living looked like for most of the day. Most of the water has now been sucked out but there are about 10 huge turbo fans and 2 giant dehumidifiers sucking out moisture from my house. It is so loud and humid in my house I don’t know how I am going to sleep here.

So it looks like I’ll be stuck by my house for several days as pros will be coming back and forth to fix everything. Feel free to stop by to check out the madness. I think what my friend Koo experienced by fire, I got to taste of little bit of it by water. I must say my experience was probably more refreshing. Fortunately the owner group admitted to their fault and will restore pretty much everything. I think there is at least about 10K in just my personal property. I really hope their insurance will cover most of it.

Any ways, as I mentioned earlier, my phone got wet/damaged during this process. I had to get a new phone so I lost everyone’s contact from my previous phone. Feel free to email/IM me and send me your # please. Thanks.
