===== EDIT: COFFEEHOUSE ======
How was everyone’s career coffee house? I think our design coffee house was the only one that had Starbucks Coffee! :-D
===== END EDIT ======

===== EDIT: VOLUNTEER NEEDED ======
Hello. I’m looking for a volunteer who will help a missionary by organizing photos in his gallery. I have CD’s of images with captions for each of them. If you have some time to spare and would like to help out our church’s missionary, please let me know. :-) Thanks
===== END EDIT ======

SERVING AS A CHURCH…

Continuing on with the whole theme of serving as a body…here’s another group of guys that are donating their time in helping out the body at our church. Introducing the Tax Ministry:

Vision (purpose):
The vision of this ministry comes from 1 Peter 4:10, where Paul encourages Christians to live for God by “faithfully administering God’s grace to others through the gifts that he has given us.” With our church continually growing in both number and needs, we want to utilize any and every resource with which God has blessed our church to minister to others. The tax ministry has three main foci: (1) ministering to the local church and body, (2) creating an avenue to invite/introduce non-Christians to build deeper relationships with Christians, and (3) to produce workers that will always see ministry as the priority in whatever profession they are called to.

Payment:
We understand that when we prepare taxes for free, we are saving people at least $50-$100, and for others even $200-$300. As a part of running this ministry, we also incur a fair amount of costs. If the Lord leads, we ask that you would donate a part of the money you will save to this ministry. All proceeds will go to CFC, the ministries in which they support, and will also cover minimal administrative costs that keep the ministry running. If you want to make a donation, please write a check out to CFC. It can be dropped off when picking up your tax return. In the past, some people have given personal gifts to those who helped, but we would rather have you donate money to the ministry so that it can be utilized for a greater purpose.

Commitment:
We understand that money issues are a private matter. The people that will be preparing your taxes will either be those who graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or accountants who have up to 4 years of experience working in public firms. Our preparers have dealt with numerous varieties of issues and most likely will not find many complications with the returns. But for issues that are uncommon or unusual, we refer to copies of the tax law on which we objectively base our decisions/judgment. You can then choose to sign and send the return or go elsewhere for further professional advice. All returns will go through a review process by a tax professional. We also adhere to a STRICT CONFIDENTIALITY POLICY in which nothing will be discussed inside or outside of the preparation room unless it is ABSOLUTLEY necessary for the benefit of the taxpayer.

Interested? Your next steps:
If you will allow us to serve you through this ministry, please email us at taxministry@gmail.com. We will send you an attached document to fill out your basic information – please print that out, and attach it to the documents that you hand in. You can hand your tax documents to Dae Woung Kang, Matt Garard, Jeremy Chen, Eddie Lee, Caroline Yun, Dan Lo, Mimi Kwak, or Jean Park. Please keep in mind that everything is done on a first-come-first-serve basis. We will also have a cutoff date for handing in your documents in response to the many people who turn in their information on April 14th. When your return is completed, we will call you to pick it up at a location to be determined. In the event that you want a personal copy for your records, please bring a CD, disk, or a flash drive on which they can be copied. Again, you can drop off your donations when you pick up your return. Please make out all checks to CFC.

Questions?
Contact taxministry@gmail.com. Thank you for your partnership! We feel very privileged and blessed in serving you through this ministry. Thank you, and God bless!!

CFC CAREER COFFEE HOUSE

Come join us after Large Group this frday as students will get a chance to connect with working professionals of CFC. There will be various locations depending on your major and interest. Locations will be announced at large group. This will be a good way to find out in advance what it’s like to work and serve at a church and also to build relationships that we normally wouldn’t get an opportunity to. Here their testimonies and get an opportunities to ask questions.

If you have any questions about this, please direct them to: John Kim at johnkim7@gmail.com

“It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” — Ephesians 4:11-13

RANDOM…
On a lighter note, here’s what you will commonly see when you walk into our apartment. :-D

SERVING AS A SENDER…

In college, I thought getting involved in missions meant that I had to sell all my possessions (like the rich young ruler) and leaving all my family and friends behind to go over seas where there are no electricity and running water. It wasn’t until I read Randy Alcorn’s book Safely Home and taking a Perspectives Class that I began to realize that missions is mandated by God for EVERY believer.

I also learned that you don’t have to necessarily “go” to be a missionary. Those who serve as senders are equally important and significant. It was then I began to realize that God was calling me to get involved in missions by actively serve as a sender. CFC has provided that opportunity for me by getting involved in a team who have committed themselves to the work of serving as senders for one of our missionaries.

At CFC, we have assembled many teams that help out each of our missionaries that are out there. I am a member in one of them. With a group of about 10 people, we support our short term missionary Adelaide Kim, whom you guys already might know. Anyways, I’m dedicating this post to her becuase we got together with her parents this past weekend. They took the time to drive down to spend a few hours with us by providing us with a nice meal and to spend time with us in prayer and worship.

I thought I share some photos from that event with you along with captions. Perhaps this will encourage everyone to get involved in some way.

Thanks to today’s technology, we can now talk directly with our missionary for free! Here’s our team gathered around a computer using Skype program to audio chat live with Adelaide.

As you can see, some of us are still blown away by the fact that this is possible. We played a silly guessing game by making Adelaide guess who we were after saying something really short. :-)

Adelaide’s parents arrive. Her dad says hello to her. At first he was kind of shocked by this whole audio chat technology.

What would meetings be like without food?!? Yum.

Adelaide’s mother serving us food.

Adelaide’s parents being playful while we were eating. I don’t think they knew that I was taking pictures of them. Actually they were celebrating their 28th anniversary on that day — yet those chose to spend that time with us in spending time in prayer for their daughter.

They finally realized that we were all watching them instead of eating.

We all got around to get ready to pray for her.

Adelaide started by sharing her prayer requests while we all listened carefully.

Then the prayer meeting starts by singing some praise songs followed by topical intercessory prayer. (Sorry, could not take any photos and play the guitar at the same time. Just imagine that it was going on.) Amazingly, we accidently left Skype program on and Adelaide was able to stay with us the entire time. We think that this was some what of a miracle because laptops usually go to sleep after about 15 mins of inactivity which would’ve disconnected her.

At the end, Adelaide’s mom says final few words to her daughter.

Here’s a final group photo of us together. Missing from the photo are: Julie Puntahachart…!(spelling), Praise Lee, Linda Lee, Queena Chi and Me (i’m taking the picture:-) )

EDIT: Here’s a picture of our team from our first meeting.

BEGIN EDIT: FUNNY STORY

So by now, everyone knows that I have an iMac which I lug around like my own laptop, except the computer is huge. It’s common for people to stare at me in amazement while I’m working on my computer at Starbucks. But something funny happened today. I was doing my work as usual on my computer while sitting at the bar. From the corner of my eye, I noticed this girl that kept staring at me — and it was not that typical “wow check out that computer” stare. It was more of a “mean, trying to get my attention” stare. I ignored it for awhile but she would not stop (good 20-30 minutes go by) so I finally turn to her and this is how our conversation went:

me: ()Hello. Did you need something?
her: ()Uhhh, yeah?! I was wondering when you were going to stop hogging that computer so other people can use it also?!?
me: (I pause for a second then laugh realizing what’s going on). Oh, that’s because this is MY computer. Did you want to use it to check the internet or something?
her: ( ) OMG. I’m soooooo sorry. I thought that computer was owned by Starbucks and was for publics to use!

After that she walked out all embarrassed. I had a good laugh and I told some of my co-workers who also had a good laugh about it. Hee hee hee. :-) Gotta love Starbucks.
END EDIT

Rather than just posting the photos from Praise Night, I thought I’d add a twist to it. Inspired by one of the praise night skits, I will call this entry:

Who will win? Let’s find out. :-D

Even though Dae Woung (our roommate)’s birthday was 2 weeks ago, we finally got around to celebrating it tonight. We headed over to Texas Roadhouse where Arden waited our table. Here’s some pictures from the night.
